Details | Kandor is one of the Borderlands, sitting between Saldaea and Arafel. The sign of Kandor is a rearing red horse on a field of pale green. Kandor is located to the east of Saldaea and is bordered by the Plain of Lances to the west, a tributary of the Erinin to the east and the Blight to the north. One of the merchant guilds is located in Kandor. Master merchants wear three silver chains across their chest. Chachin is the capital city of Kandor, in the Borderlands. It is located on the junction of several trade routes, including the cross-Borderland route running from Bandar Eban to Fal Moran and another running south to Tar Valon. It is located just south of the Blight and as a result is extremely heavily defended, although it is large enough and far enough south that vigilance is not quite as severe as in smaller settlements such as Canluum. Chachin is not usually counted as one of the great cities of the Westlands, but it rivals Tear in size. The city is built around several hills with three tall mountains rising out of the centre. Three tall ringwalls encircle the city with a 100-foot-wide drymoat located beyond that. Twenty-four bridges cross the moat, each overlooked by a small fortress where the bridge meets the city. The Bridge of Sunrise is located on the eastern side of the city, where the road from Canluum enters the city. As with many Borderland cities, Chachin is mostly made of stone buildings with glazed tile roofs that are more difficult to burn in a sneak attack. The poorest districts are nearest the edge of the city, within the first ringwall, with the districts becoming richer and more prosperous the closer a traveller comes to the central mountains. The city is also the home of the Merchants' Guild of Kandor. These merchants can easily be recognized by the chains going across the front of their coats. Inns within Chachin include the Silver Penny, Ruffled Goose, Evening Star and Blind Pig. Canluum is a small city located in the kingdom of Kandor, approximately fifty miles west of the border with Arafel on the main road to Chachin. Sprawling across several hills, it is defended by a thick wall and a dry moat fifty paces wide and ten deep, spanned by five stone bridges. The city itself mostly consists of stone or brick buildings. The city is wealthy, both for its location on one of the main trade routes to the capital and also for the gemstones mined from the surrounding hills. The city has a less savoury area along the northern wall, a warren of narrow streets, small inns and shops called the Deeps, where cutpurses work. Inns in nns in the city include the Blue Rose, in the Deeps, and the Gates of Heaven, at the foot of the Stand in a more upmarket area with shops and eateries catering to the nobility and richer merchant classes. Manala is a large village located on the road linking the town of Canluum to the capital city of Chachin, in Kandor. It consists of approximately twenty streets crisscrossing a pair of hills, and possesses at least three inns, including the Plowman's Blade. It is a regular waystop for travellers moving between the two settlements, and is the centre of an agricultural region of surrounding farms and homesteads. Like many Borderland settlements of its type and size, the village is fortified and many of the the buildings do not have ground-floor windows, only arrow slits to be used in the event of Shadowspawn attack. Kandori stone is shipped elsewhere for building purposes. |
