Details | Arad Doman is located in the north-west of the Westlands, lying between the Mountains of Mist and the Aryth Ocean. Its capital and principle city is Bandar Eban, located at the mouth of the River Dhagon. Its second-largest city is Katar near Lake Somal. Due to their distance from the capital, the lords of Katar and the surrounding lands tend towards autonomy and on occasion have to be reminded they are part of the kingdom. Historically, since the fall of the nation of AlmothArad Doman has struggled with Tarabon for control of the Almoth Plain. Domani women are the source of the nation's fame; only the Sea Folk women are thought to be more graceful. Domani women wear diaphanous, form-fitting clothing considered scandalous in most countries, and have raised the practice of seduction to an art. It is said that Domani mothers begin teaching their daughters this business at an early age. If Arad Doman owes its fame to its women, it similarly owes its national wealth to them. Most Domani merchants are women, and few men can best them in a bargaining session. Most men, however, consider losing to be worth the experience. The Domani trade a great deal with the Sea Folk, and are among the few merchants in the land who can hold their own bargaining with the Sea Folk. Horses are an important commodity, especially the famed 'razor' prized by nobles; however, few Domani will sell them to outlanders. Bandar Eban is the capital city of Arad Doman. It is located on the coast of the Aryth Ocean, lying on the mouth of the river Dhagon. It was built over the ruins of Allorallen, a city of Jaramide destroyed during the Trolloc Wars. Katar is a city on the north-eastern edge of Paedish Swar, the Darkwood to the east of Almoth Plain. Although many maps show it lying south of the borders of Arad Doman, it is in fact claimed by that nation, although its remoteness from Bandar Eban ensures a level of autonomy. It lies just west of the Mountains of Mist and north-west of Lake Somal. It is ruled by a group of Lords. Katar is a trading centre for numerous mines and smaller settlements in the Mountains of Mist, which makes it quite rich. Its ruling lords occasionally attempt to gain further autonomy or outright independence from Arad Doman, but these attempts are usually defeated by the government of that kingdom. Katar was built on the site of Iman, the capital of Safer. This city was destroyed during the Trolloc Wars. It is unknown when Katar arose on the same site, although if it existed during the Free Years it would have been located within the borders of Darmovan. Lake Somal is the largest lake in the Westlands. It lies between Paedish Swar and the Mountains of Mist, south-east of Arad Doman and east of Almoth Plain. Despite its size it is somewhat remote and relatively unknown, although a trading road links it to the city of Katar a hundred miles or so to the north-west. Some maps show the lake as being the source of one of the many tributaries of the River Andahar. |
